At times I wander, burdened stray Through restless, sleepless winding day; A mindless, useless cloudy maze. My thoughts just circle lost in haze. The world looms large beyond all bounds— Its noise, its stress, its maddening sounds. It screams, depresses, fills the ear; And leaves no sacred tune to hear. From earthly dust then turned away I seek a brighter, purer day. With opened score some peace returns And in my soul a longing burns. To write a Spiritual song, Where earthly wages don't belong, Unless a sinful heart may strive To find the everlasting life. With all my heart I seek to raise A song of truth, a song of praise. Through what I write I hope to bring The Lord a pleasant offering. For all my music I do plea To God alone the glory be. And as the notes and words align Earth's weight dissolves through love divine. And one day, when we see His face And meet Him there in all His grace, A new song then we all may sing To honor Him, our Priest, our King.
A poem written by Gertim Alberda.
I wrote this poem on April 6th, 2025.
This poem consistently has 2 pairs of couplets for each verse, in the Rhyme scheme: AABB.
It has a constant regular meter, starting with an unaccented -, then an accented syllable.
That (Iambic) pair of unstressed and stressed syllables (also called a foot) is then repeated 4 times for each line, according to this (feet):
x / x / x / x / (x= unaccented and /= accented). It can be sung on hymn tunes with meter 8.8.8.8.
Here is an example of an earthly new song I wrote.
