Chorales by Lutheran Liturgical Church Year (see wiki)

(J.S. Bach was a member of the Lutheran church)

These are the chorales known to come from specific cantatas which, in fact, had specific performance occasions notated, see here (the column 'first performance'). This was written on their title page or elsewhere, but we absolutely know this for sure. By the way, Bach did not harmonize chorales for occasions, but for cantatas which have occasions. These occasions are known with certainty (proof). However, a very large number of chorales cannot be traced to known cantatas, and this is, in fact, evidence of the quantity of lost cantatas, so we cannot assign them to occasions in this way. BWVs 253-438 are not represented here, since the larger works from which they came are lost, making placement in the liturgical calendar impossible (though in some cases, speculation is possible based on chorale texts). But, again, what we do present here is certain.

Any feast below marked in blue bold has a description (visible when hovered over) and, when underlined, also a (hyper)link to a wiki page (purple when visited).

Many thanks to Bernard Greenberg who wrote the code for this page!
The table that links chorales to dates/feasts is based largely upon Luke Dahn's table, as mentioned here
